Grosse Pointe Theatre auditions for "The Heiress" are from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, at the theatre's rehearsal studio, 315 Fisher, City of Grosse Pointe. Performances are March 10, 14 through 17 and 21 through 23 at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial.

Set in New York City in the 1850s, "The Heiress" is the story of Catherine Sloper, the quiet, socially awkward only child of a wealthy and prominent physician. Her father, Dr. Austin Sloper, (still mourning the loss of his wife) has little affection for Catherine and is terse with her. When Catherine suddenly acquires an avid suitor (Morris Townsend), Sloper presumes he is interested only in his daughter's inheritance. Catherine, torn by longing and passion, must decide for herself whom to believe.
