GROSSE POINTE SHORES — The public safety department's newest officer is working even when he's not.
Justin Reeves, a triple-trained policeman, firefighter and paramedic formerly of the Harper Woods police department, was sworn in at the Aug. 21 Shores council meeting.
"To let you know what kind of officer we've hired, on Aug. 18, after Justin finished his night shift and was on his way home, he observed a reckless driver rear-end a semi-trailer on I-94 just ahead of him," said Grosse Pointe Shores Chief John Schulte.
Reeves tended to the injured and "uncooperative" driver before emergency personnel arrived, Schulte said.
"As he treated the driver's wounds, the vehicle burst into flames," Schulte said.
