Heart health focus of senior fun day

The Eighth Annual Senior Fun Day is from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, at The Grosse Pointe War Memorial for senior citizens ages 55 and older.

Topics have evolved based on survey feedback from more than 250 attendees and highlight information on how the mind and body ages and ways to sustain mental and physical mobility.

“Staying Young at Heart,” is this year’s topic presented by Ginette Gomez, D.O. cardiovascular medicine for Beaumont Hospital, Grosse Pointe who discusses updates and advances in heart health, nutrition and the heart and staying spry. Panelists include dietitian Shelly Dimovski, Paula Kim, M.D. and Andrew Ajluni M.D., orthopedic medicine.

The Friends + Family = Facebook workshop is lead by Barbara Ciaramitaro from Ferris State University.

Keynote speaker, Randal Charlton, retired Techtown guru currently involved in BOOMthe neweconomy, will speak about “Encore Careers: The Fun and The Fear.”

Charlton is entrepreneur emeritus at Techtown at Wayne State University, chairman of the Board of Visitors of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at WSU and an advisor to the C.S. Mott Center for Human Growth and Development.

The shredding truck will be in the War Memorial parking lot from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Volunteers are available to assist seniors who need help carrying bags of documents to shred.

A piano sing-along, featuring Jack McCormick, performs during the lunch hour.
