Garden club

The Men's and Women's Garden Club of Grosse Pointe meets at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 17, in the Brownell Middle School cafeteria. Grosse Pointe Historical Society past president Susan Hartz presents a slide show on the architectural styles of Grosse Pointe houses.

Pizza and coffee are served following the meeting.

Women's Connection

The Women's Connection of Grosse Pointe hosts professional storyteller Judy Sima at its Thursday, April 24, meeting at the Eleanor & Edsel Ford House. Her topic is joys and tribulations of motherhood and other relationships based on mutual love.

Services for Older Citizens has a TED Talks at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, April 24. Stephen Hawkins discusses "Big Questions about the Universe." The 12:30 p.m. Thursday, May 1, TED Talks features Dan Gilbert discussing "The Surprising Science of Happiness."

The book "Gone Girl" by Gillian Flynn is the topic of SOC's book discussion group at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 24.

Community chorus

The Grosse Pointe Community Chorus presents its 62nd annual spring concert, "Up Where We Belong," at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, April 27, at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, 21800 Marter, St. Clair Shores. The concert includes a tribute to the Beatles.

Adult tickets cost $12 and children's tickets cost $5.

Prayer breakfast

The mayors of the five Grosse Pointes and Harper Woods host the 28th annual Mayors' Prayer Breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, May 1, at the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club, 788 Lakeshore.

Vic Faust, co-anchor of Channel 7 Action News This Morning and Action at Noon is the guest speaker.

The Grosse Pointe Michigan American Association of University Women holds its 2014 annual meeting, installation of officers and recognition of scholarship recipients at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 3, at the Grosse Pointe Hunt Club, 655 Cook, Grosse Pointe Woods.

A breakfast plate is served.

The program is "Belle Isle Today and Tomorrow" with Michele Hodges, president of Belle Isle Conservancy.
