Theatre opens 'Les Miserables' May 4

Grosse Pointe Theatre closes its 66th season with 14 performances of "Les Misérables."

The May 4 through 25 performance are at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial Fries Auditorium.

Sundays, May 4 and 18, performances begin at 2 and 7 p.m. Performances on May 8, 15, 16, 17, 22 and 23 begin at 8 p.m. Other 2 p.m. performances are May 11 and May 25. The curtain rises at 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday, May 24.

Based on the novel by Victor Hugo during 19-century France, with music by Claude-Michel Schönberg and lyrics by Alain Boublil, "Les Misérables" is a story about the survival of the human spirit and the search for hope, love and kindness during hardship and desperation.

Grosse Pointe Theatre's cast of 60, from metro Detroit, sings such songs as "At the End of the Day," "I Dreamed a Dream," "Master of the House," "Do You Hear the People Sing," "On My Own," "Bring Him Home" and "One Day More."
